Requirements & Job Description

  • Carrboro firefighters work an average of 10, 24-hour shifts per month on the following rotation: 24 on, 24 off, 24 on, 24 off, 24 on, 96 off
  • Applicants must be 18 years old at the time of hire
  • Applicants must possess a high school diploma or GED at the time of hire
  • Applicants must possess a valid driver license
  • Candidates are subject to a physical agility test, medical exam, psychological evaluation, and background check.
  • Preferred Qualifications: 
    • North Carolina Firefighter II Certification (Pro-Board/IFSAC certifications accepted)
    • North Carolina Emergency Medical Technician Certification (National Registry or eligible for Legal Recognition also accepted)
  • Preference Points awarded for the following:
    • North Carolina Driver/Operator Certifications
    • Military Experience
    • High School CTE Fire Academy Completion
  • Our current starting salary is $42,290 for Certified Firefighter/EMT
